ForbesTips and answers on today’s NYT’s “Connections” for Friday, July 5

Welcome to the weekend, everyone! I hope you have a great weekend ahead. I’m looking forward to spending more time with friends and family, and I don’t really care what we do as long as we’re together.

Today’s NYT connections Clues and answers coming soon.

How to play connections

In connectionsyou’ll be presented with a grid of 16 words. Your task is to arrange these into four groups of four by figuring out the connections between them. The groups could be things like horror movie franchises, a type of verb, or rappers.

Each puzzle has only one solution. You must be careful with words that could fit into more than one category. You can mix the words up to see if there are any connections between them.

Each group is color-coded. The yellow group is usually the easiest to recognize, blue and green are in between, and the purple group is usually the hardest to deduce. The purple group often includes puns, so keep that in mind.

Choose four words that you think go together and press submit. If you guess wrong, you lose a life. When you’re close to having a correct group, a message may appear letting you know that you’re one word away from the correct group, but you still need to figure out which one to swap out.

If you make four mistakes, it’s game over. Let’s make sure that doesn’t happen with some tips. And if you’re really having trouble, today’s connections Answer.

This is your final warning!

Today’s connections Answers are …

  • Yellow group – biological building blocks (ATOM, CELL, MOLECULE, PROTEIN)
  • Green Group – Shopping for a baby (BOTTLE, COT, MOBILE, RATTLE)
  • Blue group – objects played as instruments (JUG, SAW, SPOON, WASHBOARD)
  • Purple Group – ____ Day (DOG, FREEZE, PHONE, PRIZE)

Unfortunately today wasn’t a perfect game, but my current winning streak is five games.

My first guess was completely off. It was simply based on the fact that there were two letters in the middle of each word: FREEZE, RATTLE, BOTTLE and SPOONS. I also didn’t see anything that matched PHONE, MOBILE and CELL, so I looked elsewhere.

WASHBOARD was my entry point into the Blues, which I got on the first try despite the presence of RATTLE as a red herring. The Yellows were next, followed by the Greens. I didn’t figure out what connected the purple group before I sent those words, but hey, I didn’t have to.
