Elon Musk has confirmed the birth of his twelfth child and denied allegations that he tried to keep the baby’s arrival “secret.”
It is the 52-year-old’s third child with Neuralink CEO Shivon Zilis, with whom he also had twins in November 2021.
Musk, who is also the founder of SpaceX and Tesla in addition to Neuralink, is said to have welcomed his new baby into his home at the beginning of the year – but the arrival was only made public at the weekend.
The billionaire denied claims that he tried to keep the child’s arrival a secret, but claimed that issuing a press release about it would have been “bizarre.”
Musk, who is famously concerned about population decline, told PageSix on Sunday night: “And as for ‘secretly conceived,’ that’s wrong too.”
“All our friends and family know. Not issuing a press release, which would be bizarre, does not mean ‘secret.'”
The baby’s name and gender have not yet been publicly announced, but the arrival was first mentioned in a Bloomberg report published Friday titled “Elon Wants You to Have More Babies.”
The article noted South African-born Musk’s keen interest in population rates. PageSix reported that he also sent “a link to statistics on birth rates from the World Bank Group” and commented that many countries have birth rates “well below replacement levels.”
Social media CEO Musk, who owns X, and Zilis were happy to welcome their twins, Strider and Azure, just a month before the birth of their two-year-old daughter Exa Dark Sideræl, also known as Y, whom Musk had with musician Grimes through surrogacy.
Y’s birth was memorably announced when the little one began crying upstairs as his mother, whose real name is Claire Elise Boucher, was being interviewed by Vanity Fair.
He and Grimes, 36, also have four-year-old son X Æ A-Xii and their youngest son Techno Mechanicus, called Tau, whose secret birth was revealed in a biography of Musk published last September.
The couple dated between 2018 and March 2022 and were said to have had a friendly relationship, although it was reported that she had allegedly taken legal action against him in October to “establish a parental relationship”.
His older children include twins Griffin and Vivian, 20, and triplets Kai, Saxon and Damian, born in 2006.
He shared all five with his ex-wife, Canadian author Justine Wilson, who confirmed that they were all conceived through artificial insemination.
The 12 children of Elon Musk
- Nevada, died 2002 – son of Musk and ex-wife Justin Wilson
- Griffin and Vivian, 20 – twin son and daughter of Musk and Wilson
- Kai, Saxon and Damian, born 2006 – triplet sons of Musk and Wilson
- X Æ A-Xii (known as “X”), four – son of Musk and ex-partner Grimes
- Strider and Azure, 31 months – twin son and daughter of Musk and Shivon Zilis
- Exa Dark Sideræl (known as “Y”), 30 months – daughter of Musk and Grimes
- Techno Mechanicus (known as “Tau”), two – son of Musk and Grimes
- Newest baby – Musk and Zilis’ child was born earlier this year
This came after the former couple’s eldest son, Nevada Alexander, tragically died of sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS) at the age of ten weeks in 2002.
After divorcing Wilson in 2008, Musk married 38-year-old British actress Talulah Riley, but divorced her (twice).
The couple married in 2010, divorced in 2012 and remarried in 2013 after reconciling.
They finally divorced in 2016 and this weekend she married 34-year-old “Love Actually” star Thomas Brodie-Sangster.
Musk’s daughter Vivian filed for an official name and gender change in 2022 at the age of 18 after being born “Xavier Alexander.”
The then teenager stated that she no longer wanted to be “related to her biological father in any way.”
This is according to a petition filed in April 2022 in the Los Angeles County Superior Court in Santa Monica, which, according to the BBC, came to light in June of the same year.
