Crown Prince Christian of Denmark looked like a future king today as he joined thousands of Danes for the Royal Run in Fredericia, before setting off to take photos with well-wishers and even abseil.
The 18-year-old royal, dubbed Europe’s most eligible bachelor, opted for sports gear as he ran a mile, completed an obstacle course and met the public today.
The Royal Run takes place every spring in Denmark and has always been led by King Frederik. He and his wife Queen Mary always take part together with other participants.
King Frederik appeared ready for action as he opened the annual Royal Run in the city of Fredericia.
The 55-year-old royal looked sporty in a purple shirt, shorts and sneakers as he blew a horn to announce the start of the race.
The monarch appeared to be in high spirits as he chatted with well-wishers at the start line, cheered spectators and gave interviews to the press.
He was also pictured posing with a large compass before the event and enjoying the sunny day.
Participants can choose the route they want to take – ranging from 5km to a mile – and can choose between running or walking.
The run, which has been taking place since 2018, had a record number of participants this year.
The king wrote on social media today about his enthusiasm for the event.
“I’m about to start a fantastic Royal Run day in Fredericia,” he said on Instagram.
“I was really looking forward to it and this year too the support from all sides has been incredibly nice.”
“We set a record for this year’s race with over 95,000 registrations. My family and I look forward to meeting you in Fredericia, Aarhus, Brønderslev, Kalundborg and Copenhagen/Frederiksberg. “Happy Royal Run Day.”
Meanwhile, his son Crown Prince Christian also posted a post saying: “I have made the trip to North Jutland and am looking forward to running the one mile at this year’s Royal Run in Brønderslev.”
He was also photographed enjoying the excited atmosphere as he ran through the crowd in Broenderslev.
It comes as royal watchers across Europe have noted Frederik and Mary’s frosty behavior towards each other after rumors of an “affair” emerged last year.
However, people in Denmark have “forgotten” the king’s evening in Madrid with Genoveva Casanova in November, a royal expert has revealed.
Kenth Madsen, a royal journalist and expert based in Denmark, told FEMAIL last week that “other big things are taking over” in the Scandinavian nation as the public, which appears to be strongly supportive of the king and queen, focuses on others royal organizations focused activities and not the rumors of an affair between the father of four and the Mexican socialite (which she denied).
As for the evening, Kenth said there were “no words about Madrid” in Denmark.
Kenth revealed that the royal family in Denmark is preparing for positive events – including today’s royal run – following rumors of an affair.
These events also include the state visits to Sweden and Norway as well as Frederik’s birthday on May 26th, for which a huge parade was organized.
