Apple today released iOS 17.5.1 and iPadOS 17.5.1, minor updates to the iOS 17 and iPadOS 17 operating system updates that came out last September. The 17.5.1 updates come a week after the launch of iOS 17.5 and iPadOS 17.5.

iOS 17.5.1 and iPadOS 17.5.1 can be downloaded over-the-air on eligible iPhones and iPads by going to Settings > General > Software Update.

According to Apple’s release notes, the updates include a fix for an issue that could cause images to reappear in the Photos library even after they were deleted.

This update provides important bug fixes and resolves a rare issue where photos that experienced database corruption could reappear in the Photos library even if they were deleted.

There have been several complaints from iPhone and iPad users who saw their old, deleted photos reappear after installing the iOS 17.5 update. Images previously deleted in 2010 resurfaced, causing confusion and concern about what was going on. Today’s information from Apple suggests that it was a database corruption and iOS 17.5.1 should solve the problem.
